Position Overview

The Office of Continuing Medical Education-Physician Learning Program  in the Cumming School of Medicine invites applications for a Research Assistant. This Full-time Fixed Term position is for approximately 10 months (based on length of grant funding), with the possibility of extension.

The Physician Learning Program (PLP) was established in December 2009 as a collaborative program between the University of Calgary, University of Alberta, and Alberta Medical Association (AMA). PLP supports individual physicians, physician groups, and other organizations in the health system obtain, analyze, and use administrative data to provide physicians feedback on their individual practice patterns with comparison to aggregate comparators.

The primary responsibility of this position is to provide qualitative analytical support the Physician Learning Program. This includes supporting data collection processes, analytical methods and research design, interpretation of results and technical report writing, preparation of project proposals, and project management.

Occasional travel within Calgary and minimal travel outside of Calgary will be expected to meet with various stakeholder groups. Meetings may occur outside of normal business hours to accommodate physician clinical hours.

Position Description

Summary of Key Responsibilities (job functions include but are not limited to):

  • Supports or leads the development and execution of complex qualitative analytical projects including the selection of analytical strategies and methodologies
  • Provides input and recommendations for methods of information collection from multiple sources
  • Create evaluation surveys and other instruments (e.g., questionnaires, focus group or interview protocols) in conjunction with research team
  • Compile tables, charts, graphs, and summarized statistics for integration in research papers and reports
  • Manage and summarize evaluation responses, sign-up responses
  • Advise on interpretation of findings for collaboration on publications and presentations
  • Works with external project partners and stakeholders to define and recommend best practices for addressing complex data collection and analytical approaches
  • Interpret and communicate data to project partners and stakeholders
  • Assist team in fulfilling analytical requirements, literature reviews, data quality reviews and writing reports
  • Produce and generate monthly progress reports and other reports as needed by the Manager
  • Supports the development of presentations of analytical results to various stakeholder groups
  • Other administrative duties as required

Qualifications / Requirements:

  • Graduate Degree in Epidemiology, Public Health Sciences or a related field required
  • Minimum 3 years of recent related experience
  • Experience in Health Care Environment an Asset
  • Experience conducting systematic reviews and synthesizing relevant literature
  • Demonstrated skill in qualitative data analysis using NVivo is an asset
  • Knowledge of statistical modelling and visual analytics
  • Experience and training in mixed methods is an asset
  • Proficiency in English
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Conceptual and problem solving skills
  • Establishes and maintains good working relationships with all team members and external parties
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • High level of problem solving, organizational skill and interpersonal skills
